Every Durga Puja season, Kolkata becomes a showcase of artistic imagination. Across neighbourhoods, puja committees collaborate with artists to turn ideas into temporary spaces shaped by sculpture, materials, colour, and light.

The Adani Durga Pujo Preview 2026 offers a look at eight selected pandals, their announced themes, and the artists associated with them. From mythology and history to faith, water, and industrial landscapes, the selection reflects the range of ideas that can shape a contemporary Durga Puja experience.

Eight Pandals to Explore

1. Alipore Sarbojanin

Theme: Ramayana
Artist: Anirban Das

Drawing on one of the great epics of Indian literature, Ramayana provides the conceptual foundation for Alipore Sarbojanin's 2026 presentation. The theme opens up possibilities for exploring familiar characters, episodes, and ideas of duty, courage, and the struggle between good and evil through the visual language of a Durga Puja pandal.

2. Amra Kajan Kalyan Samiti, Rajdanga

Theme: Utsarito Alo
Artist: Purnendu Dey

Meaning “radiated light” or “light emanating outward,” Utsarito Alo places light at the centre of its theme. Light can shape how a space is experienced, revealing forms, creating atmosphere, and guiding the visitor's attention. The theme invites visitors to consider how illumination can become an expressive element of the pandal itself.

3. Barisha Club

Theme: Kalrekha — The Story of Verticals
Artists: Eshika Chandra and Deep Das

Kalrekha, described as “The Story of Verticals,” places lines, height, and vertical forms at the heart of its concept. The theme suggests an exploration of structure and visual rhythm, where repeated lines and rising forms can influence the way a visitor perceives space.

4. Behala Club

Theme: Tel — The Market of Faith
Artist: Pradip Das

Tel — The Market of Faith brings together the ideas of oil, commerce, and belief in a title that invites interpretation. The theme raises questions about the relationship between faith and exchange, and how everyday commodities can acquire social, economic, or symbolic significance within a larger cultural narrative.

5. Nalin Sarkar Street

Theme: Jololipi
Artist: Sanatan Dinda

With Jololipi, a title that evokes the language or script of water, Nalin Sarkar Street turns attention towards water as both a physical element and a source of meaning. Water carries associations with memory, movement, life, and change, making it a compelling starting point for artistic interpretation.

6. Rajdanga Naba Uday Sangha

Theme: Sodhon
Artist: Debashis Barui

The theme Sodhon centres on the idea of refinement, purification, or correction. Its title invites reflection on transformation: what is changed, what is retained, and how a process of renewal can be expressed through a public artwork. The finished pandal will give visitors the opportunity to encounter the artist's interpretation of the concept.

7. Telipukur Yuba Sangha

Theme: Ek Pukur Bhalobasha
Artist: Bhabatosh Sutar

Meaning “A Pondful of Love,” Ek Pukur Bhalobasha evokes the emotional and communal associations of a pond. In Bengal, ponds have long been part of everyday neighbourhood life, connecting people with shared memories, familiar surroundings, and the natural environment. The theme offers a warm, locally rooted point of departure for the pandal's artistic expression.

8. Thakurpukur S.B. Park

Theme: Colliery
Artist: Raju Sarkar

The theme Colliery turns towards the world of coal mining and industrial landscapes. It opens up a visual narrative around labour, extraction, machinery, and the environments shaped by industry. Through this subject, the pandal has the potential to bring a less familiar landscape into the setting of Kolkata's autumn festival.

Eight Themes, Eight Different Perspectives

The selected themes span mythology, light, visual structure, commerce and faith, water, transformation, community memory, and industrial life. Their diversity illustrates how Durga Puja pandals can function as spaces for artistic storytelling, offering visitors more than a single visual experience.

For pandal-hoppers, knowing the theme and the artist before arriving can add another layer to the visit. It provides a starting point for observing the materials, forms, and ideas through which each concept is interpreted.
